Hikes

.

There are lots of trails to hike. Let’s look at some that start right outside your door.

If you squint you can see the house in this aerial shot. It is the brown roof that is higher than the surrounding houses.

.

Behind the house is a fine mountain. Our own trails go up to ridgeline. The trail then connects to the Lanipo summit trail, which goes all the way up to the range of mountains in the background.

Our favorite hike is up our own Waiomao valley. (You can sorta see it on the left of the picture above.) There’s a dipping pool just up the stream.

About an hour upstream of the dipping pool there are two waterfalls. The vegetation between the two falls is lush and mostly native.

The base of the second waterfall is a great spot for a picnic lunch. (That’s where we usually stop, but you can keep going up, then climb a long series of waterfalls that cascade out of the Ka’au crater. The crater is maybe half the size of Diamond Head, and full of wet grasslands.)
